Translating international experience for German IT roles

Remote work abroad, contractor titles, and US-style resumes often confuse German screeners. A few framing choices fix most of it.

Contractor and freelancer titles benefit from a short clarifying line: client industry, team size, and whether you delivered as a sole contributor or lead.

US-style achievement bullets work in Germany when they stay measurable and readable. Avoid inflated percentages that you cannot defend in interview.

If your previous employer is unknown in Germany, add a one-phrase descriptor—regional bank software vendor, B2B logistics SaaS, public-sector integrator—so the reader can place you.

Language skills should be stated with honest CEFR levels. Overstating German fluency is one of the fastest ways to lose trust in an early call.

Visa and work-authorisation status can be mentioned briefly when it removes friction. Recruiters appreciate clarity without a legal essay.
